Post Case Study Research
After looking at a recent capstone project for a case study, a couple things have come to mind that would be important to highlight in my own research.
1. Identify the audience. Who am I trying to reach through my research? Who would be interested?
I think trying to reach architects overall, specifically those in the religious field that are creating new churches or adapting the idea of "Storefront Churches" and how design could be more about adaptive reuse and changing the existing form into something more compelling.
2. Technological changes within the church post Covid. How have older churches adapted to fit the new technology in order to keep with the changing times? How are churches integrating this new technology into the design process?
This would be an interesting avenue and one that I am heavily leaning toward. This would open up a ton of options for case studies of my own and could compare and contrast a church built long ago to one just a couple years old.
3. What is my Theory?
If I go with the second point, then my theory is exactly that. Coming out of last class I was a little unsure of what I wanted as my specific, narrow topic. But I think I will pursue the technology design in churches and highlight some efficiencies and deficiencies.
4. What is my motivation?
I feel this stems from my personal involvement as well as my experience in being in different churches not only in the area, but around the world. This could be a good chance to describe the differences between the new and the old as background knowledge to formulate just how drastic Covid changed the way in which a church operates.
After class on Feb 26, it felt as if there was a clear direction to go from here: How has cultural and epidemic shifts shaped the way a church technologically operates? Although the title could be Techno Church or something punchy to get the audience's attention. I feel the path is clear and set before me. All there is to do now is obtain more research and refine the details.
